Interviewing Green Team- All About Green Week
Last week, Green Team, the the help of Miss Gedney and the PTA, organised a fantastic Green Week. But sometimes we can forget what work goes into organising a week like that. We spoke to Green Team about how they pulled off such a fantastic week.
In celebration of Green Week, the PTA and Green Team have been selling plants and books and booked for all classes to do a little workshop.
In Year 4, we were learning all about food waste and we even touched worms- YUCK!!!!
When we talked to Year 4, they said they liked the boards and the PTA said these were brilliant!

In Green Week, we did a workshop and made a purse out of milk cartons. Green Team said this was to show that we don't need to make clothes and accessories out of animals, we can use our plastic which would pollute the ocean. We need to stop animals from dying and that is what we learnt in Year 5
Miss Gedney wants to say thank you to the PTA for the help and money.

During Green Week, Miss Gedney and the Green Team organised a workshop for every class. Green Team said this was fun.
The workshop was in the music room and we learnt about animals in the city and we made seed balls.
The PTA did a plant sale which was nice.

What matters to our Blog Squad?
We are celebrating Red Nose Day today at SJSJ.
Comic Relief supports local community organisations and brilliant change-makers here in the UK and across the globe. Your donations help them fill the shelves of baby banks, community food centres, fund vital community-led services like health workers and local youth safe-spaces, and ensure safe passage for people escaping danger. There are many important matters around the world, and important charities like Comic Relief try to do things to help make the world a better place
With that in mind, we have decided to write a blog post about what matters to us. What is going on in the world that we think is really important? What issues do we face and how should we solve these?
1) Something I think is really important is making money to help sick people in the hospital because you will not experience what there going through and they could be badly ill. I think this is especially important when it is about kids because if they pass away it would be really sad. However, raising money may make them better.
2) Something I also think is important is donating to charities because people in need could get off the street and be able to get a job and money and pass it on.
3) Finally, I think picking up rubbish is important because it would make us have a better environment.
For 1 we can help by saving little amounts of money.
For 2 , we can help by the same as number 1.
For 3, every time we see a piece of rubbish we pick it up .

Hello and today I'm going to be talking about kids in need . This Red Nose Day, Comic Relief is helping kids in Kenya have a great education just like we do here at SJSJ .If we raise 50 pounds that will provide kids in Kenya new stationery that will hopefully encourage them to have a better education. If we raise 500 pounds we can help five family's in need buy giving them a 100 pound shopping spree. I think this is an important cause because everyone has the right to a good life and that starts at school.

Today we will be talking about charity. A charity I think is important is about children with special needs. We have done Red Nose Day where people have handed one pound each to raise money. Also we wore red for Red Nose Day. We could help children in need by giving poor children food or warm clothes and jumpers and shoes. There are even places that do collections for these things. If you are better off, see if you can help.

I would like to save money for a charity called Sense!!I think people with disabilities should be heard about and it is not just about money. You can just tell people about it!
As well as being heard I think any person with disabilities should be helped by not just charities, but by everyone and they should also be respected.
At least make a difference and don't think just about children but also about everyone!
And even better, the charity are sustainable!
We have to help people who are deafblind or if they have disabilities and they are still equal with people without disabilities!
Remember not all disabilities are visible. Remember Article 23- we need to ensure all children, regardless of their abilities, have a good life.

I think the environment is very important because it helps us to live. Unfortunately we are damaging it, so to save it we could raise awareness by:
using less plastic
use vehicles that don`t use fuels
and many other ways.
That's how we can save the environment . We are hurting it although we don`t necessarily mean to.
Remember- we only have one Earth.

This topic today is how to raise money for charity so we can help the lower people in society. We should do this because I think if you do something good it will come back to you positively. We all need to live a good, happy and healthy life and we need to help people do that. Remember, Love Thy Neighbour is our school motto.

If you are sick you can not help it. Help them! World Book Day 2024
At SJSJ, we are celebrating world book day on Friday 8th March! Come to school dressed as your favourite book character, favourite word, or ANYTHING related to books!
After school, the PTA will be holding a book sale in the KS1 playground. Make sure to bring some money in so you can purchase a brand new book!

Our Reading Champions' Book Recommendations
We all know that reading is the foundation for academic excellence. It is proven to make children learn more and succeed across the curriculum.

YEAR 6
I am Shannon and I am linking with the reading champions. I am going to write to you about one of the champ's book recommendations- Jun-Lin's book was Goodnight Mister Tom by Michelle Magorian. He said his book was great for Year 6 because it can get quite sad and deep so that means something bad might happen. Also the book is set in WW2 which can be a very touching subject. In the story, Will goes to the countryside to live with grumpy Tom. Jun-Lin says he does not like this book... he loves this book because it is interesting and touching.You can find this book in the school library so I hope you read this book.

Lucia: Hi again!
This week, I am writing about Connie's recommendation, which is Anisha Accidental Detective by Serena Patel and I am so happy that she recommended this book because I love that series! So a little summary is that Uncle Tony has been kidnapped and Anisha has to try and find him before his wedding!
You can find it in the school library and it is really good because it is so mysterious and funny ! By the way it's World Book Day on the 7th of March!

Hello! We have talked to Romans in Year 6 about what book he recommends. He thinks this book is for older children like Year 6. He likes Tyger by SF Said. It is a story about a teenage boy that finds a tiger... but the tiger is in danger . We think that sounds cool and amazing ! You can find it in the library!

Raising Money for Solar Panels- Why and How?
At SJSJ, we have had a very exciting day! We have been fundraising to raise money for Solar Panels. But what are solar panels? And how are we raising money for them? Read our blog below, where you will find out all of this information.

Solar panels are a green way of generating energy. We want to raise money for them so that we can buy some for our school! Will you help us?
FUN FACTS!!! Solar panels last up to 25 to 30 years. They use the energy from the sun and, through some magic science, they turn that energy into wonderful electricity which we can use!

Luca: Hello community.
Solar panels are a really good energy producers. You want to know why?
It is because they are a green way for energy since they don`t pollute nature. They also can be recyclable so its even greener!!! We must protect our planet and this is a great way to do that.
Lucia: Thanks Luca! Now over to me. I love solar panels, as they are so good for the environment and they save us lots of money! We want our school money to go on our learning instead of energy.
My last fact is that solar panels get rays from the sun and then they make it into solar energy. Solar energy then gets changed to electrical energy! Cool!

The Meaning of Christmas
Our Blog Squad have been working hard researching the meaning of Christmas. As a Church of England School, we want to promote the Christian Values of Christmas. We have learnt lots of cool facts! Have a look below.
YEAR 6
It's Christmas!!!
Christmas is honoured on the 25th of December. It is a Christian festival celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. Christians believe that Jesus is God in human form. He is said to have saved us from our sins. Many traditions we follow have been created by the Germans, for example the Christmas tree and many carols we often sing in church. You may have an advent calendar. This is the countdown to Christmas day (The birth of Jesus Christ). Christians use a wreath with 4 candles and 1 in the middle symbolising the Birth of Jesus. Also there's different candles that represent different meaning. the first one means hope , 2 is faith, 3 is joy, 4 is peace, 5 is purity!

Christmas is a festival celebrated by Christians. MEANING OF CHRISTMAS!!!
We celebrate it on 25 of December but some countries do it on the 7 of January . We think its on Jesus` birthday but actually we didn`t know what day it is on!
You might have a wreath or an advent calendar. Wreaths have 4 outer candles and 1 in the middle representing Jesus` birth.Calendars are for a count down.
Some of my favourite traditions that we do at Christmas are: Spending time with my family and eating Christmas dinner!

Seasons Greetings. I am here to do a blog post about Christmas! I have a few facts about Christmas and they are very funny!
1: The worlds largest stocking took three months to hand sew.
2: The biggest gift ever was the statue of liberty from France to the USA on Christmas day!
3: 1.76 billion candy canes are made each year!
4:The largest gingerbread house used over 3000 pounds of sugar!
5: Eggnog dates back to medieval times!

Christmas is celebrated on 25 DECEMBER BECAUSE it is Jesus' birthday. It is the season for giving. WE LOVE CHRISTMAS! At Christmas, we have lots of traditions like we give and receive. Black History Month at SJSJ
Welcome back! Last half term, we celebrated BLACK HISTORY MONTH. This is such an important month, and we like to celebrate it in lots of ways. See how we learnt about it below.
YEAR 6
In SJSJ we have been doing lots to celebrate Black History Month!
Here in England, Black History Month takes place in October.
In Year 6, we have been doing lots of learning about Freetown, Sierra Leone .
In Church, we sang songs from a range of Black musical legends including Bob Marley, Eddie Grant and Stormzy. I think you would all agree that this was a really powerful and moving experience.

Welcome back!
We have a new topic . You guessed it... the one and only BLACK HISTORY MONTH !!
In year 5, we learnt about specific Black History events in History lessons. Our favourite was learning about enslaved people- this is all about when Black People were shipped across the Pacific Ocean and forced to work on plantations. We discussed how wrong this was yet how it happened a lot throughout History. We also did printing and it was something to do with a Nigerian artist's painting. We looked at his painting and we used it as inspiration. You can see our work below.

We learned about the Empire of Britain. They used slaves from abroad and used them to work in plantations to get cotton from cotton plants.
